Warrior Blossom
I was a tomboy warrior
Commanding dark green resin men
My mother beckoned from the hearth
My father beckoned from the den.
Honor sweet like fragrant cake
Duty grand on polished wood
Beckoned to me from the realm
Beyond my father’s mounted sword.
His wisdom flew from anchored mind
To join maternal admonitions
Lost to the lusts of green battalions
Rehearsing now with sharp munitions.
The coaxing twixt pubescent mind
And early freedom did give rise
To warlike fantasies that now
Took place in a world Samuraized.
From downy fawn to bushy doe
The changing in me did devise
A sensei of exquisite arts
Passed to me through his Samur-eyes.
The combat went on winter long
Through spring and the ensuing season
My troops did overcome the heat
Restored by leadership to reason.
Old skirmishes make way for new
Each scrimmage promises its prize,
A woman lives her bushido
And blossoms into Samurai.
